Why not 100% cotton socks?
•Posted on April 22 2023
When it comes to buying socks, I’m pretty sure cotton is the popular choice to go but did you notice – there isn’t much option for 100% cotton socks?
As cotton is so well-known, I've actually been getting people asking me –
“Why can't you provide 100% cotton toe socks?”
“”The Steppy Everyday toe sock is so comfy but I noticed it’s not 100% cotton; wouldn’t it be even better to make it 100% cotton?””
Okay…now let’s dig deeper into this topic!
As we all know, cotton material is soft, comfortable and durable while breathable. BUT! Yes, here comes a BIG BUT- natural cotton fabrics have an intrinsic elasticity of around 3 to 6 percent!
(Some of my friends were very surprised when they were told for the first time of above fact.)
With that being said, cotton socks require to add some fibres such as spandex, nylon, acrylic and polyester...etc which give cotton socks the elasticity and they are very common & comfortable functional fibres.
Now let’s talk about some benefits of cotton socks:
- Comfort:
Cotton is a very breathable and soft material, which makes cotton socks a no brainier option when purchasing socks. Cotton material provides excellent moisture absorption which keep our feet dry and prevent foot odour.
- Durability:
Cotton is a very durable material, that’s how cotton socks gets the great reputation of lasting long time and good conditions after multiple washes.
- Hypoallergenic:
Cotton is a natural fibre that is less likely to cause skin irritation or allergic reactions. This is the reason why people with sensitive skin would normally go for cotton material based products.
- Eco-Friendly:
YES! You read it right! Cotton is a renewable resource that can be grown without the use of harmful pesticides or chemicals, making it an environmentally friendly choice.
There are just the benefits you get from cotton socks. Now if we make a little upgrade from cotton socks to cotton toe socks, you will be amazed what other benefits you will be getting.
- Improved grip & balance:
By separating the toes, toe socks can provide better grip and balance, especially in activities like weight training (if you are like me, always like to train with “shoes OFF”), yoga or a run (this one was validated by my partner. lol)
- Reduced friction, blisters & foot odour:
The individual pockets in toe socks can help reduce friction between toes, which can reduce the risk of blisters.
- Improved hygiene:
By keeping each toe separate, toe socks can help absorb more sweat; reducing moisture and the build-up of bacteria, which can lead to foot odour & foot fungus.
- Comfort:
Some people (Here! I’m one of them) simply find toe socks more comfortable than traditional socks, as they allow each toe to move and flex independently. It can also give you better mobility and alignment.
- Style:
Yes! Your read it correctly!! STYLE!
The fun & quirky design simply makes you stand out!
Time for a change? You are in the right place.
